What We Can Learn From Gandhi

If you don’t know a lot about Ghandi, I invite you to do some research on him — he was quite an amazing man. However, up until he became well known, many people believed the only way you could really change the world or stand up to oppression was through war. Ghandi proved that the REAL change can be made in more subtle, peaceful ways.

Sometimes we may walk into a business meeting, or an engagement with a loved one, expecting a conflict. We go into the situation with a certain attitude and decision that we are expecting some sort of altercation — and in the end we end up getting exactly what we expected. If we were to approach the interaction with the attitude that we’re going to get what we want because that person is on our side, then he or she is much more willing to cooperate with us. It is proven that a peaceful approach is much more effective than an abrasive one. As the old saying goes, “You attract more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.” No one knew this more than Ghandi himself.

Yes, I agree with you Nik about Ghandi making real changes through peaceful means. I know that he was a great mentor and inspiration to Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. I have discovered in my life that when I approach a person or situation with the idea that they are for me, and not against me, and that all things good will grace my path, then magic and miracles always follow. I am currently reading the book, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho and the central theme throughout the book is that the Universe conspires on our behalf. With faith in ourselves, peace in our hearts and gratitude for a loving and supportive Universe, we can, like Ghandi, create a peaceful, abundant, and beautiful environment that benefits all life in our world. :-)

    Namaste,
    Phyllis
